My Dad's Knife Fighter Story

I found this magazine clipping in one of my Dad's rodeo books.  He grew up in the Southwest, owned horses, and was a cowboy during the summers.  He must have gone through a knife fighter phase and I can understand why.  Makes me wonder why my dad was so into knife fighting.
"Two men stood facing each other within a circle scratched in the Texas sand," so the story starts out.  "They were stripped to the waist and wore only their rough boots and buckskin pants.   There left wrists were lashed together by a leather thong.  In their right hand they had sharp, glistening knives."  Makes me wonder why my dad was so into knife fighting after reading this excerpt.
